PROTEST CAMPAIGN AGAINST THE CONSTRUCTION OF AMMONIA
RELOADING TERMINAL ON TAMAN PENINSULA

NEWS ON THE PROTEST CAMPAIGN IN TAMAN
ANNOUNCEMENT ABOUT THE ACTION, THAT WILL BE HELD ON THE 20TH AUGUSTOn the 14th August a just another provocation was committed toward the participants in the camp. About 15 o'clock a KAMAZ truck loaded with sand, belonging to Toglyattiazot Corporation and having the hull No Î259ÍÀ 14, left the road and begun to move toward the camp at low speed. Having approached to the camp the driver said that he was going to cover the camp over with sand. The driver raised a little and pulled down the body of the truck several times. This lasted a quarter of an hour, after what the truck went away in the direction of the constructed terminal.
On the 15th August the activists of the protest camp begun sticking leaflets and posters with invitation to the action of the 20th of August. Besides that, the participants of the camp, local people, holiday-makers and Cossacks by common efforts started collecting signatures against the ammonia terminal.
On the 16th August since 12.30 o'clock on the central square of Taman village an ecologist public awareness post was set up. The activists-ecologists unrolled a transparency "Toglyattiazot, respire your ammonia yourself!". Leaflets-invitations to the protest action of the 20th August were distributed among passers-by.
This action lasted about an hour. When it was over, the activists organized a little march as far as the Cossack headquarters building, where the headquarters of the protest campaign is situated.

ANNOUNCEMENT ABOUT PROTEST ACTION
On the 20th August, 2002 at 12 o'clock in the village of Volna (Temruk district in Krasnodar Territory) in front of Toglyatti Corporation office the environmental activists of Movement against violence, Rainbow Keepers movement and Socio-Ecological Union of Western Caucasus supported by Cossacks will start a protest action against the construction of an ammonia reloading terminal on Taman peninsula. Environmental activists are striving for stopping the construction of the terminal facilities. The initiative group of the campaign invites all the people who care for the future of Taman, to take part in the action. We also invite the representatives of mass- media for covering this action.
